Ernest Lang
Born in the island state of Singapore, Ernest was raised and educated in Vancouver. After graduating from the University of British Columbia, Ernest was the Managing Director of a privately-held consumer products company that he led to a market leading position nationally. During this time, Ernest also developed international trade channels and helped to establish a joint venture manufacturing enterprise in China.
Prior to co-founding Meritus Financial,
Ernest was a founding partner of one of the leading wealth management practices at Canada's largest investment dealer.
During his tenure there, Ernest focused on the estate planning and structured alternative investment aspects of the business and became one of the company's most prominent practitioners specializing in this area. After departing the company to help manage his own private enterprises for a few years, Ernest was contacted by the financial services subsidiary of Canada's leading bank-owned wealth management company, and was offered a regional business development and consulting role for British Columbia, which he accepted.
With his extensive experience in founding, owning and leading several multi-million dollar enterprises ' all of which continue to operate as going concerns ' and additional experience in the finance, real estate, development and investment industries, Ernest specializes in helping corporations and individuals develop risk-mitigation strategies and tax-effective capital transfer strategies that achieve desired corporate and personal goals. He has presented these strategies at leading accounting and legal firms and has been an invited lecturer at the college level.
A firm believer in ongoing, professional education and development, Ernest is a designated Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Financial Management Advisor (FMA) and is an MBA candidate with the University of London in the UK. In recognition of his expertise, experience and training, Ernest is honoured to have been elected a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI).
Outside of his role at Meritus Financial, Ernest served three terms on the board of directors for the Certified Management Accountants (CMA) of British Columbia and maintains directorships on several other corporate boards.
When he is not working, Ernest prizes spending time with his wife and two sons and is a regular and enthusiastic board member, supporter and volunteer for one of the Lower Mainland's emergency shelter and community outreach organizations.
